A short history of Royal Book Mart

The Royal Book Mart was started by  Daryl Odland in 1965.  This was the start of  the Royal Book Mart at 600 Agnes Street, New Westminister, BC. The store opened 1st February,1965. Along with the help of his family, Daryl set up and operated the Royal Book Mart. At that time they sold new magazines, new books as well as used magazines and paperback books. Focusing mainly on fiction, adventure, action, romance, suspense, mystery and of course science fiction and fantasy the store become a meeting place for many families. In 1993 Daryl began thinking of retirement so he called me.  I was then operating Austin Books in Coquitlam, BC.

In August 1994 Austin Books closed and all stock was moved to the Royal Book Mart.   In 1996 I began to computerize the inventory.  That task is just now being completed.

In the summer of 2008 due to ill health and a desire to semi retire, the decision was made to close the Store Front and to operate over the internet. We will be selling through this site as well as Alibris.com and Biblio.com.
